Framing Standards And Materials

Every detail matters when it comes to framing. We offer quality glazing, mountboards and materials that both protect and enhance your artwork, all crafted to Fine Art Trade Guild standards.

Glazing options

Artglas reduces UV rays by up to 99% and provides a special finish for those items requiring special attention, while 2mm float glass is the popular economical option.

Other options include Acrylic (for lighter frames), Non-Reflective glass (handy for large frames or those hung near windows) and Laminated, which offers more security for very valuable work.

Mountboards

The right mountboard can complement an image perfectly, and there's a huge array of mountboard styles and colours to allow for a little creative license.

In many cases, mountboard has the additional function of also protecting your artwork, by providing a gap between it and the glazing. The quality of mountboards also varies to provide acid-free and cotton board options to protect the integrity of your artwork.

General Standards

We work in accordance with Fine Art Trade Guild standards, which outline four key levels of framing:

Level 1 - Museum Standard / Ultimate LevGeneral Standardsel
Level 2 - Conservation Standard / High Level
Level 3 - Mid Level
Level 4 - Low Level

A typical bespoke frame in most homes would be Mid Level. That is, a good quality finished product that can be hung for years and really enhance a space.

The upper standards are for projects ranging from original works of art and limited prints, up to museum standard for high value items to be preserved for generations. Any piece framed under these standards can be replaced to its former state without incurring damage.
